On the basis of an urban planning study for the expansion of the Campus for Physics in Hamburg Bahrenfeld, a VOF procedure was carried out, from which the design by the Berlin office of Rainer Becker Architekten emerged successfully.
The Centre for Hybrid Nanostructures (CHYN) is the first building on the new South Campus on the DESY site.
The 3-storey building consists of two interwoven structures of different textures.
In addition to the largest clean room in Europe, the 14,000m² gross floor area houses numerous laboratories for research into hybrid nanostructures. The abstracted figure of these connections can be found in the floor plan of the upper structure in the roof view.
As part of the realisation of this 66 million euro project, bicon provided the service phases 6 – 9. A particular challenge was the increased structural requirements for precision and cleanliness which, as in hospital construction, are also necessary for the construction of laboratories.
