Reemtsma Park in Hamburg’s Othmarschen district is one of the most famous historical parks in the Elbe suburbs. The extensive, park-like grounds were originally home to the company headquarters as well as the private residential and representative buildings of the Reemtsma family. The centrepiece of the ensemble is the listed Reemtsma Villa, which was built between 1930 and 1932 according to plans by architect Martin Elsaesser. The villa is exemplary of the functional, modern architecture of the early 1930s and still characterises the appearance of the area today.
After an eventful history of use, including as a British officers’ mess and later as an administrative building, the villa was carefully renovated as part of a comprehensive project development by Waterbound Real Estate GmbH and converted into a modern residential and office use. Waterbound’s services included project and construction management for the revitalisation of the building in line with its listed status.
The villa was initially offered on the market as an exclusive office building. As the project progressed, its use was reduced to four high-quality residential units and a separate office unit. Particular emphasis was placed on the preservation of the historic building fabric and the careful integration of modern living standards. The work was carried out in close consultation with the heritage conservation authority.
Today, the Reemtsma Villa presents itself as a high-quality residential and office building and, together with the other buildings, some of which are also listed, forms the exclusive ensemble of Reemtsma Park.
