The office and commercial building at Neuer Jungfernstieg 16 has been extensively extended, completely gutted and rebuilt from the ground up. Originally built as a palace hotel and later used as a bank, the building is in a prominent Alster location on Neuer Jungfernstieg, right next to the Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten.
During the modernisation, the striking historic Art Nouveau façade was retained as a supporting structure, while the interior of the building was completely gutted and converted into a contemporary office and commercial building. The historic pile foundation was reused and thus formed the stable basis for the architectural extension. An essential part of the project realisation was the close coordination with the monument protection office in order to preserve the character of the building and at the same time fulfil modern requirements for a functional and attractive office building. The interiors were designed to allow flexible, open-plan office structures with generous room depths.
WBRE took on the entire project and construction management – from leading the negotiations to purchase the property, to finding the concept, participating in lease negotiations, drawing up the overall budget and managing all construction phases. With this holistic support, the balancing act between historical substance and contemporary use was successfully realised.
