Just a few steps from the gardens of Charlottenburg Palace, a unique place to live was created with this project. In several phases, an ensemble of around 700 apartments was developed, uniting modern residential culture with historical charm.
Carlos Zwick Architekten transformed the historic walls of the former maternity clinic into an architectural vision, distinguished by a harmonious interplay of architecture and design. Modern living meets Berlin’s history, creating a stylish and timeless atmosphere.
The project included the renovation, conversion, and attic extension of the listed building into exclusive apartments and commercial spaces. The historic complex—consisting of the west wing on Sophie-Charlotten-Straße, the central section along Mollwitzstraße, and the east wing on Heubnerweg—was modernized in a way that preserved its historic charm while offering contemporary living spaces.
A particular highlight is the former hospital garden on Mollwitzstraße, which is listed as a garden monument in Berlin’s heritage register. It was carefully integrated into the concept, allowing residents to live surrounded by green spaces.
Bicon Generalplanung managed the first construction phase of the project until 2016, overseeing the building management of the first 200 residential units. One of the main challenges was dismantling the existing roof structure to create space for the new superstructure. In close coordination with all stakeholders, the transition from historic substance to modern architecture was successfully realized.
Another focus was the implementation of individual requirements of buyers and the handover of apartments upon completion. Here too, Bicon ensured the highest precision and quality in both coordination and execution.
