The project is located in a listed Wilhelminian-style building in Hamburg’s Uhlenhorst district, close to the Outer Alster lake, and the main construction measures consisted of creating a new lift system including a canopy in the inner courtyard and new, enlarged balconies on the garden side.
The lift in the inner courtyard was designed as an external lift in a separate, thermally insulated shaft frame with a connection to the external façade and partly made of glass elements. The existing cantilevered balconies were replaced due to their poor condition with new, enlarged balconies in the form of a hot-dip galvanised, colour-coated steel construction in an add-on system.
The façade was given a new coat of paint, with the street frontage with its valuable stucco elements receiving increased attention during the restoration work, in addition to investigations of the findings. The window elements were completely replaced in line with the original state of the divisions and colour-contrasted with the façade.
The areas on the ground floor, mezzanine floor and 1st to 3rd floors were converted into high-quality flats while retaining the floor plans. The restoration of stucco profiles in the ceiling and wall areas with decorative ornamentation and the partial preservation of the old parquet and floorboards and the linings/cladding of the windows and doors were combined with modern elements in the bathrooms and entrance area.
The services provided by wbre included project management and construction management. The project was completed in 2020.
