According to the plans of the architectural firm Matteo Thun Milano GmbH, a hotel is being built in the municipality of Übersee am Chiemsee that not only stands for luxury, but also fulfils the highest standards of building design and sustainability. The old beer garden will remain open to the public in order to preserve the connection with the region.

A natural stone plinth forms the foundation for a visual connection between the timber/nailed and glass façades on the ground and upper floors. These natural materials, sourced and processed regionally, not only lend the hotel a local charm, but also enable an energy-saving construction method. In line with the principle of short journeys, regional companies are commissioned; this reduces CO2 emissions and also strengthens the local economy. As a technical highlight, the roof is clad with durable wooden shingles, creating an aesthetic connection to the surrounding nature. Passive energy saving is made possible by large roof overhangs, which ensure self-shading and less energy input.

The hotel’s building services are designed with sustainability in mind:
Heat pumps and photovoltaics help to reduce energy consumption and utilise renewable energy sources. Another focus is on minimising the use of composite materials and the separability of materials in order to increase reusability and recyclability.

‘It is important to us that the new Chiemgauhof blends harmoniously into the beautiful landscape and the shores of Lake Chiemsee,’ emphasises Matteo Thun, the architect. With this in mind, the new hotel will not only be a place of relaxation and hospitality, but also a showcase project for sustainable construction and living in harmony with nature.
