With the Bänsch Quintett, Berlin gained an extraordinary new residential ensemble that impresses both through architectural sophistication and sustainable urban development. Extending from Bänschstraße via Pettenkoferstraße to Dolziger Straße, the project filled one of the last vacant lots in the vibrant Samariter neighborhood. After more than 67 years, one of Berlin’s most striking “war scars” was healed here, making a significant contribution to urban repair and neighborhood development.
Within just 22 months of construction, spacious, light-filled apartments were created, offering ceiling heights of up to 3.1 meters and elegant floor-to-ceiling windows that provide a unique sense of space. Generous south-facing terraces, loggias, and balconies give residents exclusive retreats while emphasizing the high-quality character of the entire complex.
The design of the Bänsch Quintett emphasizes harmonious architecture and a close connection to nature. A central landscaped courtyard links the five buildings, creating a vibrant yet peaceful refuge in the heart of the city. Through their precise placement, the buildings enter into dialogue with each other, integrating seamlessly into the urban environment while retaining their individual identity and stylistic unity.
A defining feature is the façade design, which incorporates rusticated structures and cornice bands to create horizontal and vertical rhythms. This approach integrates the ensemble into the existing streetscape while also distinguishing the individual buildings. As a result, the Bänsch Quintett is perceived as a cohesive urban ensemble, firmly anchored in both the past and the present.
