Their concept of the ‘360° organic cycle’ aims to produce no waste, but to utilise all by-products. This cycle encompasses all aspects from raw material procurement and processing to energy supply and waste treatment. The aim of increasing production volumes and simultaneously increasing processing capacity goes hand in hand with intensive collaboration between almost 120 offices and companies. This partnership spans various specialist areas, from architecture to intralogistics, with the majority of the companies involved coming from the region.

The construction period of the project, which began in March 2022 and will be completed in summer 2024, reflects the commitment to efficiency through sustainable measures: enormous savings will be achieved through heat recovery, water savings and the use of renewable energy, for example by installing a PV system with a capacity of around 800 kWp to supply its own electricity. The entire building envelope fulfils the requirements of a BEG Efficiency House 40EE. The technical systems, from the refrigeration technology to the high-temperature storage tank, also focus on sustainability. A state-of-the-art cascade refrigeration system with natural refrigerants and a high-temperature storage tank for a CO2-free energy supply are just two examples of the innovative solutions that have been implemented here.

Particular attention was paid to the construction of the hall and the high-bay warehouse. The timber construction with panel cladding significantly reduces CO2 emissions, while an innovative high-bay warehouse system ensures efficient utilisation of the space. The conveyor and storage technology as well as the goods management system were also designed to maximise efficiency and minimise the ecological footprint. Automated processes and intelligent systems ensure optimum utilisation of resources.

Overall, the project is an outstanding example of how sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand. It shows that environmentally conscious behaviour is not only possible, but can also be extremely successful.
